Publishers the Librarian Recommends
Not every book in Ebook Cenral will have traditional Christian views. Here are some publishers that tend to lean towards being orthodox or traditionally Christian, and finding books published by them would be a good place to start your search:
- Abingdon Press
- Eerdmans
- Lexham Press
- John Knox Press
- NavPress Publishing Group
- InterVarsity Press
- Tyndale House Publishers
Is It Scholarly?
Ebook Central has both academic (scholarly) titles and devotional or popular titles meant for lay people (non-scholars). Sometimes it’s difficult to know where a book may land on that scale. Here are some tips to help you:
- Best Bible Commentaries is a website that has lists of comparison charts. This is a good place to start for commentaries
- For other resources, like biblical or systematic theologies, this LibGuide has some very useful info to help you determine if a book is scholarly
- Encyclopedias, concordances, word studies, maps, timelines, lists, histories/Bible backgrounds, and word studies fall under the category of “Bible study tools”. You typically test their scholarship based off the author’s qualifications, other titles the author has published, and his/her authority in the field. Often, the more academically qualified people listed as co-authors or contributors to a single title, the better
