Transfer of credits

Global Christian will transfer previous college credit toward either of its degree programs. For the two year Associate of Arts degree, up to 45 semester units (66 quarter units) can be transferred. For the four-year degree, up to 90 semester units (135 quarter units) can be transferred. For the Master’s degree up to 6 units can be transferred on a class-by-class equivalency.

Students who are seeking a four-year degree in Biblical Studies can transfer up to three years of qualifying prior credit. The student then need only take 30 semester units (15 classes) from Global Christian to receive their degree.

Students who already possess their two-year degree (or comparable amount of units) need only take 60 semester units (30 classes) to receive their four-year degree.

Global Christian does not award credit for “prior experiential learning.” However, students who have served substantially in the following areas can take a “ministry experience” course which comes with substantial requirements: Pastoral ministry, Youth ministry, Adult ministry, Church planting, Christian education, Church administration.

Transfer units typically come from :

  1. Community college or other accredited college
  2. Military transcripts
  3. CLEP or AP exams
  4. Unaccredited training (e.g. Ministry School): units will be assessed for equivalency through either a transfer agreement with that institution or on a case-by-case basis and will not exceed 25% of the total units for the degree requirements (a maximum of 15 units for the AA, 30 units for the BA, and 8 units for the MA ).

Advanced Placement (AP) Tests

Credit earned through CLEP or AP coursework is transferable provided an official transcript is received by the Office of the Registrar from The College Board.

Global Christian accepts AP exam results for credits toward an undergraduate degree. Please submit any successful completion of these exams from the College Board. Your official AP scores will be turned into transferred college units.

CLEP Tests

Global Christian accepts up to 30 semester units through CLEP standardized challenge exams. CLEP exams help students earn credit towards the completion of their undergraduate degrees. CLEP credit by exam information, please visit The College Board website.

Business exams (3 quarter units each), Composition and Literature (3 units each but “College Composition” is 6 units), Languages Level 1 (6 units each), Languages Level 2 (9 units each), History and Social Sciences (3 units each, but “Social Science and History” is 6 units), Sciences (6 units each), and Math (3 units each, but Calculus is 4 units and College Math is 6 units). Please see this CLEP website or this SJSU website for more information on scores and units.

ACE or DEAC Recommended

StraighterLine or Sophia Learning offer GE-level courses. Credit earned through ACE or DEAC recommended coursework is transferable, provided an official transcript is received.

Global Christian accepts units toward an undergraduate degree from StraighterLine, Sophia Learning, or similarly recommended ACE of DEAC recommended courses. Your coursework will be transferred into college units toward your GE.

GAP Year Programs

Take a GAP year and do ministry school or another unaccredited program. Up to 25% of your degree units can come from these types of programs. This means up to one year of your BA can come from an amazing ministry school or missions training experience. This GAP year program must meet certain conditions of the type of training and hours that are completed. Contact [email protected] for more information about how specific training programs will count toward units. Below is a list of standard agreements for certain ministries and training centers. We would love to add more…

Experiential learning is done by taking a “ministry experience” course or doing an internship.

experiential learning

Global Christian does not award credit for anything that can be unequivocally defined as “prior experiential learning” or “work/ministry experience.” However, students who have served substantially can take a “ministry experience” or internship course (see the Catalog for the unit cap). These courses come with substantial requirements: the student pays the standard tuition amount and writes a 1000-word paper on what they learned through the process, accomplishments, and mistakes. They will have substantial professor interaction as they complete this course. Regarding Experiential learning, the validity of the requirements for ministry experience and the associated courses are solely at the discretion of Global Christian and therefore no appeals will be considered.

Transfer Credits from other Programs

Some non-accredited training like at a ministry school can be transferred as well. We try to maximize your previous educational journey and give the shortest route to degree completion.

Submission of official transcripts will be needed upon admission to the college to account for transferable units. Transcripts should be sent to [email protected].

Note: Global Christian University is not in partnership with any of these schools but we do receive units from them that count toward our graduation requirements.  These units will not be issued separately or enumerated on transcripts for students who transfer away from Global Christian before finishing their degree. The institution has not entered into an articulation or transfer agreement with any other college or university.

For the following institutions, we have standard transfer calculations in place. Some programs lack accreditation and therefore have a limit on how many units may be considered for transfer.
